Overnighted at Mhlati Cottages before entering Kruger National Park during December. Very impressed with the service, stay and the location of the Mhlati cottages only a stone throw away from the Malelane gate. Ideally located and equipped for anyone that would like to travel into Kruger as a day visitor or as a overnight stop before entering. The breakfast offered was also excellent.

I had great deal on this property but it got even better when we arrived and met the lovely host Sandi. She's so warm and friendly she made us feel at right at home. Sandi was even nice enough to share her cooking oil. Although the property itself is great, the greatest asset they have is the host. Thank you Sandi and keep up doing the good work.

Easy access and quick access.
Easy access and quick access. We went off season but had pre-booked with SANParks, so a word of warning, don't pre-book unless it's high season to guarantee access. It doesn't specify this when booking, so we thought we were paying the conservation fees.
You're free to roam around in your own vehicle and don't need an off-roader. There is an abundance of wildlife so you don't even need to stay for 3 days. We went for 2 hours on our own and saw elephants, rhinos, 'pumbas' and impalas.
The toilets are few and far between so either go when you find them or you'll have to do it at the side of the road...without straying into the Bush.
We then went for a full day with a guide who knows the area better and took us to the watering holes we probably would've never found on our own, where giraffes, wildebeest, hippos and elephants were all hanging out.
A note about Malaria: we read that malaria was found around Kruger and had conflicting advice about taking anti-malaria tablets. In the end, we just covered our legs and arms (even though it was hot) and sprayed mosquito repellent with 50% deet.
In short, Kruger is a must, but don't expect to see leopards or cheetahs, as they are, quite literally, impossible to 'spot'.

Malelane is very beautiful and easy to get around.
Malelane is very beautiful and easy to get around. I loved the wild life the most, it was pleasant view to watch the birds and animals roaming around freely. The staff at the gate were very friendly and helpful. Wish I had more time to give a constructive review but went to the park for just half a day and managed to see some of the big 5 which was the purpose of my visit.

There is supermarkets for pre Kruger shopping on the road out of Malalene. Major roadworks taking place out of Malalene. Beware of trucks and drive carefully. Not recommended to drive in the dark while roadworks in place.

Pastana still remains for me the most affordable best and well managed accommodation in Malelane.
The Restuarant always meet my expectation of the wide spread of eats available.
Malelane is very easy to navigate. It has all the amenities to accommodate a travelers needs
The town is very clean .
I would avoid accommodation I have not visited before. A picture tell a thousand tales. But some can be very deceiving and uncomfortable.

Malelane town is totally unappealing.
Malelane town is totally unappealing. The only reason for staying in the suburb we stayed in was a) it is outside the town and b) is close to the Kruger Park entrance. We stayed in Mhlathikop suburb, which is nice and can be recommended.
This is an awesome location from which to explore Kruger national Park. It is just 10 minutes drive from Malelane Gate, which is less crowded than some. The amazing thing is you practically don't need to leave the hotel because the park is right across the river. From the deck of the hotel we saw a rhino grazing right on the shore, elephants, 3 sets of mother with baby hippos, (who've made this spot their little nursery), monkeys, impala, waterbuck, and numerous types of birds.
.The self catering unit had everything I needed. The unit was spotless and cleaned daily. I liked the view of the dam and the mountains from my unit. Reception was friendly and helpful always (engaged with Letta). The checking in and checking out was seemless. Thank you Letta for organising Almond milk for me; highly appreciated as adhering to a vegan diet can be tricky in foreign town. Thank you Jimmy for the game drive at Kruger National Park; the experience was priceless.
The location is calming and surreal. The staff is amazing. The food is beautiful and tasty. The Chalets are lovely with a large bath and shower and a 270 degree view from the big bed. Restaurant area is wonderful with a bar, pool and lovely seating. We spotted buck, giraffes, butterflies, monkeys and more within the property. Kruger National Park Malelane gate is about 10 mins away excluding the time to drive the dirt road.

Excellent location, about 12-15 min drive to the Kruger Malelane gate. Beautiful area, very clean and neat, comfortable bed & excellent kitchen amenities. It would be excellent if the property included a mini splash pool to cool off in. Coffee machine was a bonus along with the complimentary wine, filtered water & chocolates in the fridge!
Spacious and self catering place with an awesome Gas Barbecue grill on the deck. This place exceeded my expectations and is on the top of list of best stays ever, the place is very big and clean. The aesthetic Apartment design was on point. The location is great, very close to Kruger National Park(Malelane Gate).
Would definitely recommend this place. Joy and Allan are great hosts, happy to help with anything. The check-in was smooth we got there a little earlier than expected and they accommodated us on that. The place is great and relaxing and the Malelane Kruger gate is about 5mins away. Will come back for sure!
Contacted by WhatsApp to tell me about New Years Eve celebrations. Staff & management made a real effort.

Location outstanding overlooking Kruger.
I've eaten here on 2 previous visits but first time I've stayed here. Would recommend.
Both Dinner and Breakfast was really nice.
The view was amazing. Looking over the crocodile river into the Kruger Park was great as that is where our holiday started.
The staff was really friendly and made you feel at home. They are very accommodating.
The house is beautiful..perfect for family or group of families consisting 8-9 people. The location os close to malelane gate of kruger..It is a good house for those who wants to visit kruger and stay outside and looking for self catering house
The location was excellent - we went to the Kruger National Park from there.
It was very clean.
Big shower
Excellent air conditioner
Clean bedding and towels after two night's stay
Friendly staff
Excellent location to access Malelane Gate at Kruger. Has a wonderful deck with a view over the Crocodile River - game viewing on your doorstep. Provide a simple and tasty dinner. Secure parking.
We loved our stay. We saw hippo, crocodile, impala, elephant, warthog, waterbuck across the Crocodile River in Kruger all from the deck. Enjoyed swimming in the pool and delicious breakfasts!
On the banks of the Crocodile River - it felt like you were IN the Kruger Park. Super comfortable thatch lodge that feels warm and inviting. I could have spent a month there.
It is on the crocodile river, very close to the Kruger park gate. 5 mins drive. I can spend the whole day on the hotel deck for finding animals. There is always some surprise
The only good thing was it was on the Crocodile river so you can sit on the deck and watch the animals. It's also close to the Malalene gate to Kruger national park
